FirstEnergy is shameless begging the U.S Department of Energy (DOE) to bail out its (and many, many more) uneconomic coal and nuclear plants.

--> DOE “seeking comment” The DOE is now seeking comment on section 202(c) of the Federal Power Act, but not opening a formal docket for comments. Reminder: 202 = The $8 billion lifeline FirstEnergy would love to be handed.

Could this be a delay tactic? Or is the DOE creating an opportunity to build support for FirstEnergy’s proposal in the absence of an endorsement from PJM (the regional grid operator)?

We don’t know, but anyone interested in protecting America’s electricity markets should keep an eye on that page. Raking in the outrageously big bucks Since Chuck Jones became FirstEnergy’s chief executive in January 2015, he has declared bankruptcy for his generation unit, closed outdated power plants, and watched the company’s stock price plummet 13 percent. 

So why has Jones’ salary soared 53 percent -- from $10 million in 2015 to $15.3 million in 2017 – in just three years?   Nifty nifty, looks who’s fifty With the FirstEnergy whiplash we’ve been experiencing over the past two weeks, we totally forgot to celebrate our fiftieth edition last week.
