Refund policy
Donation refund and chargeback policy
Environmental Defense Fund is grateful for your donation and support of our mission. EDF’s budget and ongoing financial health are reliant on accounting for and accepting donations from the public. Due to technical and financial reasons, EDF considers all donations to be nonrefundable after 180 days (90 days for bank transfers/ACH donations).
If you have made an error in making your donation or changed your mind about contributing to our organization, please contact us. EDF will only give consideration to your request, depending upon the circumstances, and only if such request is made within 180 days of the original donation. Refunds within 180 days (or 90 days for bank transfers/ACH donations) are returned using the original method of payment. One exception being if a refund is issued after our financial books are closed for a fiscal year, which always ends September 30th. In those cases, a check will typically be sent to cover the refund amount.
EDF may ask for proof of identity before issuing a refund. You are responsible for any and all tax considerations that may arise if your donation is refunded.
Donor initiated credit card chargebacks will be handled similarly. In most cases, if the chargeback is initiated within the 180-day time frame for credit card donations, EDF will typically approve the chargeback request.
