Description

Rohemir is a Director in EDF’s Clean Transportation team, where he focuses on decarbonization of international shipping and aviation while also contributing across other transport areas. He also works on policy, analysis and strategy that support decarbonization efforts in the United States, advancing opportunities for climate action at all levels.  

Background

Prior to joining EDF, Rohemir was a Foreign Affairs Officer for the U.S. Department of State. He spent over five years in the Office of Global Change and supported Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry and Principal Deputy Special Envoy for Climate Sue Biniaz on matters related to international shipping and aviation emissions. Rohemir was the lead U.S. negotiator for greenhouse gas issues at the International Maritime Organization, one of the U.S. lead experts on the implementation of the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation at the International Civil Aviation Organization, and part of the U.S. carbon markets team. In addition, until December 2024, Roh was co-chair of the Paris Committee on Capacity Building.

Prior to joining the U.S. Department of State, Rohemir was a staff attorney for the Conservation Law Foundation working in the Clean Energy & Climate Change and Clean Air and Water Programs. He was also a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Juan R. Torruella of the United States Court of Appeals and an Honors attorney fellow at the Environmental Protection Agency, Region 1.
