CERAWeek: Methane Innovation House Spotlights Solutions that Cut Wasteful Emissions, Strengthening Energy Supply and Security
Hub features top tech providers showcasing tools to help operators of all sizes locate, measure and map emissions effectively
HOUSTON, TX – At CERAWeek 2025, a new Methane Innovation House opens today with leading technologists and industry experts ready to demonstrate how oil and gas companies of all sizes can simultaneously maximize energy output and minimize emissions by upping their methane performance.
Organized by Environmental Defense Fund, the Methane Innovation House will highlight the value and capabilities of fast-emerging measurement tools and techniques and the opportunity for integrating approaches to empower suppliers, buyers and investors to make well-informed market decisions about methane loss rates about natural gas and the methane loss rates associated with it.
Among the instruments represented is MethaneSAT, a ground-breaking satellite developed by an EDF subsidiary with support from Bezos Earth Fund, The Audacious Project and New Zealand Space Agency to tally emissions from methane sources of all sizes at high resolution over wide areas not covered by other satellites.
“Millions of tons of methane are escaping from oil and gas operations every year,” said EDF Chief Scientist Dr. Steven Hamburg. “MethaneSAT provides the first truly comprehensive picture of oil and gas methane emissions, detecting sources that other satellites can’t. Together with other satellites and a suite of other advanced monitoring technologies, we’re delivering essential data to guide effective methane mitigation.”
The venue will host more than 25 events, including technical talks, case studies and continuous product demonstrations. In the innovators area, MethaneSAT, GHGSat, Insight M, UNEP’s Oil & Gas Methane Partnership 2.0, MiQ and Carbon Mapper will showcase cutting-edge methane solutions. MethaneSAT will unveil new observations of 12 oil and gas basins, highlighting its ability to transform methane measurement on a global scale.
"In the fight against methane emissions, MethaneSAT is our secret weapon. Its cutting-edge advanced science and technology provide us with crucial insights, enabling faster, smarter action—and that’s why MethaneSAT is one of our most vital investments," said Kelly Levin, Chief of Science, Data and Systems Change for the Bezos Earth Fund.
Methane waste from venting, flaring and leaks of natural gas is not just an environmental issue. It also means lost revenue and operational inefficiencies. But a fast-growing array of solutions are available and only getting better to help operators harden systems to avoid this waste.
Located in the Innovation Agora from March 10-13, the Methane Innovation House, supported in part by the Global Methane Hub, is a forum for energy leaders to learn about the growing ecosystem of methane technologies and how to effectively use different tools and datasets to address methane emissions. For more details on the Methane Innovation House’s full program, including sessions and speakers, download the CERAWeek App or visit: https://www.edf.org/content/ceraweek-2025.

Quotes from innovators:
The Methane Innovation House brings together leading experts and cutting-edge technology providers, each playing a unique role in advancing methane action. Here’s how our partners are driving progress:
"As part of a dynamic, evolving ecosystem, Carbon Mapper delivers high-resolution data on methane and carbon dioxide super-emitters to inform and help drive emission reductions across the energy sector,” Riley Duren, CEO of Carbon Mapper, said. “Carbon Mapper works with decision-makers across private and public sectors to translate our data into action, supporting rapid leak detection and repair, assessing trends, and verifying reductions.”
"Effectively reducing methane emissions begins with robust measurement and credible certification," said Georges Tijbosch, CEO of MiQ. “The Methane Innovation House at CERAWeek serves as a vital forum for showcasing how industry leaders can integrate top-tier technologies with trusted standards to accelerate impactful action. At MiQ, we are dedicated to empowering operators, buyers, and investors with the transparent data necessary to drive genuine change."
“In the near-decade since the launch of GHGSAT’s pioneering first satellite, we’ve built trusted partnerships with industry that allow us to see the impacts of methane mitigation firsthand—from the environmental benefits to millions of dollars in cost savings,” said Stephane Germain, CEO of GHGSAT. “Today, a constellation of satellites later, one thing is clear: sharing these lessons learned with the broader methane community is critical to accelerate this progress. We’re proud to join this hub of innovators for conversations that demystify the world of methane mitigation, helping to ensure secure and resilient energy systems.”
“Progress in methane wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the incredible efforts of operators around the world,” said David Bercovich, Insight M CEO. “We’re proud to be part of the Methane Innovation House at CERAWeek to highlight how pragmatic solutions lead to business and environmental success for the oil and gas industry.”
“Innovation is driving a methane data revolution that companies can leverage to manage emissions and deliver operational excellence,” said Giulia Ferrini, manager of UNEP’s OGMP 2.0. “OGMP 2.0 provides a powerful framework and community of practice that empowers the industry to harness credible data to realize its methane ambition. With over 150 companies representing 42% of global oil and gas production, momentum is growing as the Partnership enables a shift from generic emission factors to the measurement data essential for informed decision-making.”
