Overall Function

As a critical member of the Development Communications team, Senior Specialist will contribute to the team's smooth functioning and high performance, focusing on preparing proposals, reports, concept notes, and other written materials to cultivate and secure funding from donors for EDF’s programs. This position reports to the Associate Director and Senior Editor, Development Communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and project manage cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship materials, including proposals, reports, and other fundraising materials.
  • Proof and quality check cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship materials written by fellow members of the Development Communications Team.
  • Support the Development Communications Team as needed to produce the highest-quality documents, for example by assisting with gathering content, formatting, developing tables and photo searches.
  • Support document and process flow, ensuring deadlines are met efficiently.
  • Communicate and collaborate extensively with development, mission, and marketing staff in carrying out tasks and responsibilities
  • Participate in advancing EDF’s organizational effectiveness and culture goals, in which people from all backgrounds and experiences feel connected, included, and empowered to address the environmental and organizational challenges aligned with EDF values.
  • Participate in department-wide initiatives, projects, meetings, retreats, and other duties as assigned.
  • Coordinate and send time-sensitive emails about breaking news to donors. This includes proofreading and managing distribution lists.
  • Additional relevant responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least four years’ relevant work experience.
  • Excellent writing, proofing, and editing skills with a keen understanding of style and grammar.
  • Agility and comfort working on a wide variety of environmental topics. Ability to understand and translate complex technical information into compelling narrative and plain language.
  • A collaborative, problem-solving approach and ability to navigate a large, highly matrixed organization.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team among geographically dispersed colleagues.
  • Consistent attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience with project management. Familiarity with Asana is a plus.
  • Ability to adapt to frequent change and prioritize multiple tasks effectively under deadline pressure.
  • Strong time management skills, especially when it comes to balancing small but necessary tasks with big, urgent ones.
  • Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated self-awareness, cultural competency, inclusivity, and ability to work with colleagues and stakeholders across

    cultures and backgrounds.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with Photoshop, Canva, and InDesign is a plus.
