Reports and publications

  • 2023 was a pivotal year for EDF's impact in India. We made significant progress in building our foundation of partners and aligning our activities to support the country’s economic development, all while stabilizing the climate and providing a healthy environment.

  • Medium and heavy-duty vehicles (MHDVs) are major sources of harmful air pollution and greenhouse gases, and disproportionately burden communities of color. To study the impact of potential policy interventions, EDF estimated pollution changes and health impacts for the 7-county Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) region for two policy scenarios: 1. Implementation of the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) regulation, and 2. a full transition to 100% zero tailpipe emission medium and heavy-duty vehicles (eMHDVs).

  • White paper from EDF provides details on the capabilities of new technologies for detecting landfill methane – including satellites, remote sensing technologies, and drones – and describes advances at the state level.

  • Modeling soil carbon and greenhouse gas emissions

    Type: Report

    Date: May 2, 2024

This report from EDF helps guide through challenges involved in application of process-based models to measurement, monitoring, reporting, and verification (MMRV) schemes in large-scale contexts. It provides important context and recommendations for process-based model implementation in agricultural soil GHG and SOC projects to increase consistency, transparency, and confidence in this integral portion of the MMRV process.

  • Illinois warehouse boom

    Type: Report

    Date: April 24, 2024

To better understand the disproportionate community health burden associated with warehouses in Illinois, Environmental Defense Fund deployed a peer-reviewed framework called Proximity Mapping. Findings include that at least 1 in 6 Illinois residents lives within a half mile of a mega-warehouse.

  • Power resiliency for electric fleets

    Type: Report

    Date: April 22, 2024

Report published by Environmental Defense Fund takes lessons learned from rising adoption of electric trucks across industries and compiles them into a guide that can help fleets explore their power resiliency needs and the back-up power solutions available to them.

  • This Issue Brief illustrates the increasing role that fuel costs, principally natural gas costs, have played in electric rate increases on residential customers in the North Carolina service territories of Duke Energy Carolinas (DEC) and Duke Energy Progress (DEP) during recent years (2017-Q1 2024).

  • This EDF report presents a mapping analysis that shows representations of several gas gathering pipeline systems in the United States and their federal “Class Location” categorizations. It also presents an overview of reported data on gathering pipelines, including recent safety incidents and their costs.

  • Cuba is in the midst of an economic and energy crisis, but with domestic action and international support, there is opportunity for change. This report by EDF and the Columbia Sabin Center for Climate Change Law presents the current context and recommendations for improvements over the short, medium and long-term.

  • Just transition and safeguards framework

    Type: Report

    Date: April 9, 2024

Report produced by EDF provides guidelines for developing strategies, plans, measures and metrics that will ensure a fair and equitable transition towards cleaner energy sources. It also provides guidance on how to measure whether activities uphold decarbonization benefits, environmental rights and the interests of impacted stakeholders, including Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities.
